“The Role of Cultural Heritage in Socio-Economic Development and Preservation of Democratic Values – HERItage”

As you already know, within the Croatian presidency over the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2020, the University of Rijeka should have had the honor of hosting and organizing a conference entitled The Role of Cultural Heritage in Socio-Economic Development and Preservation of Democratic Values – HERItage. The conference, which was supposed to take place on March 11-13, 2020 in collaboration with the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education, is financed through Horizon 2020: Europe in a changing world – inclusive, innovative and reflective societies.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference had to be cancelled and in agreement with the European Commission, we had to adopt a different format and drastically reduce the number of sessions.  We have turned the original three-day conference with more than 300 speakers into four video conferences (hosted on the Zoom platform) with max. 6 speakers per panel in the period from June 15 to June 182020.

The virtual conference will bring together not only prominent researchers but also European Commission representatives, policy-makers, regional stakeholders, local authorities, artists, and the various actors involved in ECOC activities, as well as interested citizens.

We wish to thank you very much for your effort so far, we are sorry we could not have used your expertise but we hope there will be other opportunities for us to meet. Also, as the 4 conference virtual sessions will take place, we hereby invite you to register and participate in the panel discussions offering us and other participants an insight into your thoughts and opinions. It would indeed be a great pleasure to welcome you virtually.

Please feel free to share the information about the conference with your networks and websites and for any additional information contact the conference secretariat at heritage@uniri.hr.

The relevant information about both the virtual and the initially planned conferences, including the program and the speakers, can be found at the official conference website.

The deadline for the registration of participants is June 7, 2020

We look forward to ‘seeing’ you soon!
