Margarita Gómez Salas graduated as an architect at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (Argentina), and has developed a career as a territorial planner and culture manager acquiring wide-spanning international professional experience. She works as a trainer and consultant, as well as university lecturer and researcher. In Mozambique, as external consultant for the UNESCO Joint Programme for Strengthening Cultural and Creative Industries and Inclusive Policies in Mozambique 2008-2011, she trained local authorities and communities in the inventory and mapping of cultural assets and the elaboration of cultural-based projects. As founder of desenho, she has designed and implemented the movie festivals ‘cinemameu’ in Mozambique and ‘cinema’ in Malawi (2010-2015). From 2007 to 2011 she developed the syllabus, curricula and taught disciplines like Interpretation of Cultural Heritage and Territorial Planning at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. As an advisor on behalf of the GIZ (2001-2014) to Inhambane Municipality, she was given the task of dealing with both territorial management and the elaboration of relevant policies. In the Dominican Republic, as a CIM integrated expert, she assisted the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources in territorial environmental planning and natural resources management (2016-2018). During those years she also lectured on Urban Design at the Universidad Pedro Henriquez Ureña. She is currently conducting research on place identity, and culture and heritage management on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Island of Mozambique.
